Hearts & Colors is the company behind Sam Grudge’s art. We sell his original paintings, limited and open edition prints, and everyday objects featuring his work.
Love, care and respect. That’s our motto. We want to live in a better world, and we think how we treat each other is a good place to start.
Why hearts
Why a heart?
There’s a heart in every painting. In some, it’s the first thing you see. In others, you have to look for it. It’s a familiar shape, but what it means to you might be very different from what it means to someone else.
For us, the heart is a reminder to give a little more thought to the people around us. You don’t have to see all of that in a painting to enjoy it. Sometimes you just like the colours. That’s fine too.
Love
Love deserves a place in everyday life. A heart on the wall is a reminder of the people we love and the time we want to make for them.
Care
We care about all people, including those who seem harder to love. We know what struggle looks like, and we’re not always at our best either. Caring means looking beyond the surface and taking the time to see the person.
Respect
We won’t always agree, and we won’t all like the same art. Respect means listening and treating people fairly regardless.
Our ethical foundation
The Four Agreements.
The Four Agreements are the basis of our ethics. They give us something practical to come back to when running a business gets complicated.
They come from don Miguel Ruiz’s Toltec-inspired book The Four Agreements, known in French as Les Quatre Accords toltèques. Here’s how we try to put them into practice.

Be impeccable with your word.
Describe the work honestly. Be clear about what we can promise, and follow through. If we get something wrong, say so and put it right.

Don’t take anything personally.
Listen to criticism without getting defensive. Someone may see things differently, and that’s worth understanding. A customer’s concern still needs an answer.

Don’t make assumptions.
If something isn’t clear, ask. That applies to us as much as to you, whether we’re discussing a frame, arranging delivery or sorting out a misunderstanding.

Always do your best.
Give the work our full attention, knowing that our best won’t look the same every day. Learn from what goes wrong and use that experience next time.
Our purpose
Hearts beyond the studio.
We want people to live with this art, not just look at it on a screen. That’s why the paintings are only part of what we offer. Prints and everyday objects give more people a way to own something they like.
The original is made by Sam’s hand. A print or an object reproduces his design in another form. We’re clear about the difference, so you know what you’re buying and who made the art.
A heart in every home.
We’d like to see hearts on walls and in homes all over the world. It’s a big ambition for a simple shape. But it’s one we’re happy to spend our time on.
