This is only my second painting ever — and I can still feel the grass under my feet when I look at it. Tervuren Park, just outside Brussels, has this almost overwhelming generosity to it: wide open meadows held on both sides by dense, ancient trees. I wanted to capture that feeling of being small inside something vast and quietly alive. The path cuts in from the left, modest and unhurried. The heart sits right there in the grass — pale, soft, barely announced — because that's how love tends to show up in nature. You have to slow down to notice it. And up in the sky, the clouds do their own thing. I was still finding my hands as a painter, still learning how the brush wants to move. Looking back, I'm glad I had the nerve to just go for it.
