In true wintering-down fashion, this is Solstice — so cold out there, but can a beating heart really be that cold? This 60x60cm painting, in acrylic, was where I first let myself explore airbrushing as a technique. There's something about the way the heart seems to hover — barely distinguishable from the pale blue air around it, almost like a held breath. I added icicles along the top edge to anchor the cold, to make it physical. But even then, the heart stays white. Not frozen — just still. Waiting, maybe. I hope it finds a wall somewhere warm, somewhere it can remind whoever looks at it that even the longest night eventually turns.
