Some windows don't just let in light — they let in entire stories. Romeo and Juliet was born somewhere in Italy, standing in front of one of those whitewashed walls with those unmistakable blue shutters, wondering how many hearts have stood in that same spot and felt something shift inside them. Two hearts, side by side behind open blinds — one deeper, shadowed, carrying the weight of it all; the other warm, reaching forward, almost hopeful. The shutters are real wood, built right into the painting, giving it a presence that goes beyond the canvas. Touch it and you feel the grit. Step back and you feel the story. I didn't want to paint the tragedy. I wanted to paint what survives it — the idea that two hearts, no matter what conspires against them, always find a way to lean into each other.
