There's something almost defiant about a white heart burning against that much orange. This is Happy pt.1 — the first of seven, and I wanted to come out swinging. The background moves from a deep, almost molten orange at the bottom to a golden amber at the top, like the sky right before the sun claims the day. And sitting right in the middle of all that heat: a white heart, quiet and solid, letting the color do all the shouting around it. No noise, no clutter — just that contrast, that tension between the blaze and the calm. To me, that's what love actually feels like when it's working. The world is loud, and somehow you find this still, luminous thing at the center of it. Valentine's Day gets a bad reputation for being saccharine, but I think it deserves better — it deserves paintings like this one.
