Two hearts locked together — one black, one white — neither fully yielding, neither fully letting go. That's what this piece is about. I painted it for my daughter, and for the friction that lives inside every love worth having. The gold isn't decorative; it's the heat underneath it all, the fire that makes the struggle mean something. Oil and fire don't mix — except when they do, and then everything burns brighter. I've learned that staying in the room during the hard moments, not running from the tension, is its own form of love. Maybe the deepest kind. This small painting holds a lot of weight for me. I hope it reminds whoever lives with it that conflict and care are not opposites.
