Keith Haring was a force. Bold lines, raw energy, a heart that meant something to everyone. I'm not him, I never will be, and that's exactly the point. This is my little nod across time to a master who proved that simplicity is never small. A heart radiating outward, black on white, brushwork loose and alive — it's a conversation, not an imitation. Wintering Down slows things down, sure, but some flames don't dim with the season. His didn't. Mine won't either.

Some windows don't just let in light — they let in entire stories. Romeo and Juliet was born somewhere in Italy, standing in front of one of those whitewashed walls with those unmistakable blue shutters, wondering how many hearts have stood in that same spot and felt something shift inside them. Two hearts, side by side behind open blinds — one deeper, shadowed, carrying the weight of it all; the other warm, reaching forward, almost hopeful. The shutters are real wood, built right into the painting, giving it a presence that goes beyond the canvas. Touch it and you feel the grit. Step back and you feel the story. I didn't want to paint the tragedy. I wanted to paint what survives it — the idea that two hearts, no matter what conspires against them, always find a way to lean into each other.

I'll be honest with you — Sprinkles didn't exactly arrive quietly. In the middle of a collection built on stillness and introspection, this one showed up like a sugar rush. It's a heart-shaped donut, basically. Chocolate base, pink frosting melting down the sides, and yes — those are real sprinkles pressed right into the paint. I couldn't help myself. Sometimes Wintering Down calls for a little absurdity, a little sweetness to break through the contemplative mood. The heart radiates outward in a blaze of yellow light, almost sacred, almost ridiculous — which feels exactly right. Because even in the quietest seasons, something in us craves joy that's unashamed, joy with sprinkles on top.

Lisbon hit me like a frequency I didn't know I'd been missing. There's something about that city — the light, the tile, the radio spilling out of open windows playing songs that should be thirty years old but somehow feel brand new. This is Lisbon pt.1, and it starts right there: with warmth so dense it glows, a heart that burns from red down through orange into pure yellow heat, like afternoon sun trapped in paint. The word below it came naturally — tagged, loud, unashamed, the way feeling something real tends to be. Graffiti as declaration. The eighties never left Lisbon, and honestly, good. There's a generosity to that city that gets under your skin. Yellow like sunlight that answers to no one. This is No Kings — a piece that came out of something I was feeling in my gut and needed to put on canvas before the moment passed. The heart replaces the 'heart' of the message, because to me that's always where real power lives — not in crowns, not in thrones, not in whoever decides they're above the rest of us. The crown sits right in the middle, dethroned by its own presence, framed by a declaration that feels as old as it does urgent. I painted it fast, loose, with broad strokes of pure cadmium yellow and raw black. No fussing. Some things don't need to be polished. They just need to be said.

Every June, Lisbon erupts. The streets fill with smoke and laughter, grilled sardines everywhere, paper decorations swaying overhead, music bleeding out of every doorway. This is Festa das Sardinhas — and I couldn't let it pass without painting it. Each fish here carries its own personality: bold patterns, wild colors, heart-shaped tails swimming through deep Atlantic blue. No two are the same, just like the people filling those narrow streets. I painted this in 2015 and it still makes me feel the heat of that summer. Look closely — one of them is carrying a question mark. I think that one is me, always wondering what comes next, always happy to be lost in a city that knows how to celebrate being alive.

What if the most powerful nation on Earth was built upon love? That question wouldn't leave me alone. American Experiment pt.2 is my answer — or at least my hope. The stripes are all there, red and white, bold and familiar. But instead of stars, a single blue heart takes center stage, and inside it, dozens of smaller hearts arranged like a constellation. Not stars of rank or conquest — hearts. Every single one of them. I wanted to keep the iconography recognizable, even reverent, while quietly flipping the script. Power doesn't have to mean force. A nation, any nation, is ultimately just people. And people, at their best, lead with the heart. This one's for the dreamers who still believe that's possible.

California lives in me like a song I can't stop humming. I spent years there, and this painting is my attempt to hold all of it at once — the redwood forests, the mountains, the Pacific rolling in, the golden fields, the desert heat, the orchards. That apple at the top of the heart? That's Silicon Valley, that restless engine of ideas. Everything in this place moves. The energy never settles. So I let the brush swirl, layer over layer, color chasing color — blue for the ocean, green for the forests, red for the earth, yellow for that relentless California sun. The spiral in the corner is the ocean doing what it always does: pulling you in, turning you around, sending you back changed. This is not a postcard. This is what it felt like to be alive there.

In true wintering-down fashion, this is Solstice — so cold out there, but can a beating heart really be that cold? This 60x60cm painting, in acrylic, was where I first let myself explore airbrushing as a technique. There's something about the way the heart seems to hover — barely distinguishable from the pale blue air around it, almost like a held breath. I added icicles along the top edge to anchor the cold, to make it physical. But even then, the heart stays white. Not frozen — just still. Waiting, maybe. I hope it finds a wall somewhere warm, somewhere it can remind whoever looks at it that even the longest night eventually turns.

Barcelona lives in me the way a song you once heard in a sun-drenched alley never quite leaves. This is Barcelona pt.1 — a love letter to a city that builds beauty into its very bones. At the center, a small red heart pulses with life, and from it, rays of color burst outward like light through a cathedral window, each wedge a different hue, a different memory, a different voice from those winding streets. The four corners hold clusters of broken, scattered tiles — Gaudí's language, the art of the fragment that somehow forms the whole. I wanted to capture that particular magic: the way mosaic makes sense of chaos, the way Barcelona itself feels like it shouldn't work and yet is absolutely, completely alive. The sandy, warm background holds it all together like old stone in afternoon light. This one is meant to be seen in public, where people pass and pause — which feels exactly right for a city that has always performed its beauty without apology.
